Liquorice Root – Glycyrrhiza glabra has anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti- bacterial, antispasmodic, mild laxative and expectorant properties. It is a well-known flavouring in candy, medicines, tobacco and toothpaste.
Liquorice root is used in the treatment of low blood pressure, liver disease, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) infections, acid reflux and is also helpful in preventing infections, cavities and gum disease.
Prepare a decoction with ½ – 1 teaspoon liquorice root per cup of water, bring to the boil and simmer for 10 – 15 minutes. Strain and enjoy the tea.
