African Wormwood – Artemesia afra is often confused with other members of the artemisia family.  It is beneficial in the treatment of bronchitis, coughs, colds and flu, asthma, malaria, intestinal parasites, indigestion and flatulence, bladder and kidney infections.

African Wormwood is more commonly known as Wilde als, Lengana or Umhlonyane.  It grows wild in most of South Africa, and is easy to propagate from cuttings.

It is also useful as an insect repellent, namely for aphids and white fly.  And can be used as a mouthwash for mouth ulcers.

A cup of African wormwood tea is made with 1 teaspoon dried leaves, add boiling water and let it brew for 3 – 5 minutes, remove the teabag or strain.  Enjoy your tea.
